Although some jewellery pieces are miniature works of art, we mean it literally here - this beautiful necklace or bracelet has been masterfully crafted in 18K yellow gold the design of a photo frame, with an ornate scroll and foliate border, a simple border surrounding the artwork, and a solid gold backing. Encapsulated in this frame, is a artfully handpainted miniature of Russian Countess Varvara Rimskaya-Korsakova (née Mergasova, 1833–1878) was a Russian socialite and a great beauty of the 19th Century, famed for her striking appearance and influence in Parisian high society. She was married to military officer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and was the subject of famous portraits by Franz Xaver Winterhalter, known as "La Venus Tartare" for her exotic beauty. Her 1864 portrait hangs in the Musée d'Orsay.
