Encapsulated in this frame, is a artfully handpainted miniature of Russian Countess Varvara Rimskaya-Korsakova (née Mergasova, 1833–1878) was a Russian socialite and a great beauty of the 19th Century, famed for her striking appearance and influence in Parisian high society.She was married to military officer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and was the subject of famous portraits by Franz Xaver Winterhalter, known as "La Venus Tartare" for her exotic beauty.Her 1864 portrait hangs in the Musée d'Orsay.
